It's unlikely that Nintendo has any plans to change this fact, so players will just have to wait until they can hook it up to a TV to play with friends locally. Its sad that Nintendo didnt opt for an easily exchangeable battery for the system.

Even so, some fans are undoubtedly upset by this discovery as it goes against the portable nature of the Switch that it's so appreciated for. To conserve battery, the headset will automatically power off when it has not been docked for 30 minutes, has not been moved, and is not in use. As with every mobile device it would be wise to unplug the system if you dont use it and recharge it every 6 months or so, to keep the battery healthy. While sitting around the device does allow for multiplayer play, Nintendo Switch Sports is a more active game, and being glued to the screen isn't something that would work well, especially with fast-paced games like tennis. 1785 MHz is not pushing the console beyond the limit, so you can use it if you keep the temps in check. To be fair, trying to participate in a multiplayer game of Nintendo Switch Sports while staring at the small screen on the Nintendo Switch would likely be quite difficult for all involved. 1.7 GHz is the safe-zone limit for the Tegra X1 chip but possibly not the safe-zone for the Switch due to heat (and battery drain, of course).
To make matters worse, this means that local multiplayer is completely incompatible with the Switch Lite, as it doesn't have docking functionality and isn't intended to be connected directly to a TV or monitor. Trying to access the mode and then undocking the Switch also doesn't work, as it produces a notification that it must be docked. Players must first plug the Switch into the dock in order to play. While players can enjoy single-player mode with the Switch set in tabletop mode, the same isn't true of local multiplayer. That's why it may come as a surprise and disappointment when players discovered that Nintendo Switch Sports' local multiplayer mode can't be played in tabletop mode. While most of the Wii's appeal came from the motion controls and the unique way they could be utilized to control game avatars, the Nintendo Switch is loved for its portability and ability to be played anywhere, regardless of whether the player has access to a TV or monitor.

Eeeh… dang it.RELATED: Nintendo Switch Sports Update Adds Online Play Anyone else have any amazing ideas (other than buying an aftermarket Dock while awaiting to get the original fixed) let all of us know. Here is what I deduced: it has to be the USB-C connection to the HDMI not making contact somewhere in the transducer inside of the back of the system or a faulty USB-C at the point of connection to the Switch.
I tried the 30 second off then power on, cleaning the connectors with rubbing alcohol, juggling the system in the dock to see if it would realign, removing the cables and reinserting them in a specific order as others directed, removing the HDMI ports from my television, turning the television on and off to reboot …. When docked the system shows that it’s charging but it doesn’t seem to be providing much power since, while working on the dock, it’s draining at a rate faster than it’s replenishing additionally, the system is not connecting to the TV (which the biggest problem). Same problem here with the USB-C not connecting properly to the system causing an immediate green connectivity light then disappearing within 100th of a second.
